United Way Greater Triangle is supported by tens of thousands of individuals, and we believe it is our responsibility to ensure the community that supports us has a definitive voice in the organizations we partner with through funding. We believe this is what true community impact and community-centered philanthropy looks like.
Community Readers commit to virtually reading and reviewing 3-5 nonprofit applications (about 3-5 hours of volunteer time) between Monday, October 5 - Thursday, October 15, 2026.
By signing up to volunteer as a Community Reader, you will join hundreds of community members reviewing nonprofit applications from across the Greater Triangle.
Community readers must meet the following requirements:
- Able to read and write in English
- Live or work in Wake, Durham, Johnston, or Orange county
- Have access to internet

Join us for a STEM Kit Packing event October 3rd to support youth in Wake County!
STEM Kit Packing Information:
STEM education at a young age can help kids build critical thinking skills, practice teamwork, and find a future career in STEM! Our goal is to pack 200 STEM kits to support elementary, middle, and high school kids this school year. Each kit will contain materials for various STEM learning activities and will support the Boys & Girls Club in their afterschool programming.

Ready to channel your inner geek for a great cause? This volunteer opportunity is a hands on, highly rewarding experience dedicated to putting technology into the hands of students and low-income families who need it most.
Whether you are an IT professional or have never looked inside a computer in your life, Kramden provides all the training you need! Here's what to expect:
- Diagnose & Spec: Evaluate new donated computers and check their hardware capabilities
- Load Software: Install operating systems and get tech ready for new users
- Organize Peripherals: Sort and test monitors, keyboards, mics, and cables
- Detail & Clean: Give the equipment a thorough cleaning so it feels brand new for the recipient
